Drain Cleaning in Santa Cruz

A slow drain and a backed-up main are different problems

One slow fixture is usually local — hair and soap in a bathroom sink, grease in a kitchen line. When several fixtures back up at once, or a toilet gurgles while the washing machine drains, the trouble is further downstream in the main line.

Those are different jobs with different costs, and telling them apart before anyone starts work is the part that saves you money. A local clog gets cabled or jetted at the fixture. A main line problem gets a camera inspection first, because the right fix depends entirely on what is causing it.

What actually clogs drains in Santa Cruz County

Roots. The most common main line failure we see here. Redwood, oak, and Monterey pine roots find hairline gaps in older clay laterals and widen them over years.

Grease. Kitchen lines in homes, and heavier accumulation in restaurant and multi-unit buildings, where it cools and hardens against the pipe wall.

Sand and silt. Closer to the coast, fine sediment works into lines and settles in low spots.

Scale in cast iron. Older homes still have cast iron waste lines. Interior corrosion narrows the pipe until flow drops off.

If a drain has cleared and clogged again within a year, the underlying cause was never addressed. We would rather camera the line and tell you that than sell you the same cabling twice. For lines that clog repeatedly, hydro jetting scours the pipe wall rather than punching through the blockage.
