Snaking punches a hole through a blockage. Hydro jetting scours the pipe wall. That difference matters most in lines that clog repeatedly — if a drain backs up again a few months after it was cabled, the blockage was never really removed, only perforated.
We run a high-pressure water jet down the line on a hose fitted with a specialized nozzle. The jets cut forward through the obstruction and flush debris back toward the cleanout, returning the pipe closer to its original diameter than any mechanical cable can manage.
In Santa Cruz County the recurring culprits are consistent: tree roots in older clay laterals, grease in restaurant and multi-unit lines, and sand and silt working into pipes closer to the coast.
Jetting is the right call for root intrusion, grease buildup, scale in cast iron, and sand or sediment accumulation. Redwood, oak, and Monterey pine roots find the joints in older clay laterals and keep coming back; jetting cuts them out and cleans the pipe wall behind them.
It is not always the right call. High pressure can finish off a pipe that is already failing. If a line is badly corroded cast iron, cracked, or partially collapsed, jetting can turn a bad pipe into an open one. That is why we camera the line first and show you the footage. If jetting is not appropriate, we say so and explain what is — a spot repair, a liner, or a replacement.
We also will not sell you jetting as a recurring fix for a structural problem. If roots return every year, the joint they are entering through is the problem, not the roots.
