Hard water spotting your glasses, a chlorine taste from the tap, or well water you want tested and treated — we install and service water filtration and softening systems across Santa Cruz County. Licensed and insured, CSLB #914119.
Call (831) 777-5758Talk to a Plumber NowIt depends a lot on where you are. The City of Santa Cruz draws largely from surface water — the San Lorenzo River, coastal streams, and Loch Lomond — which is treated municipally but can carry seasonal taste and odor and a chlorine or chloramine residual. Soquel Creek and other district supplies lean more on groundwater, which tends to be harder. And a great many properties in the San Lorenzo Valley, Bonny Doon, Corralitos, and the rural county are on private wells with no treatment at all beyond what the owner installs.
The practical result: there is no single answer for the whole county. The right system depends on your specific supply, and the honest first step is usually a water test.
Point-of-entry filtration that treats all the water in the house. Removes chlorine, taste, odor, and sediment. A common first upgrade for city water where the complaint is taste and smell rather than hardness.
For hard water — the scale that spots glassware, furs up water heaters, and shortens the life of fixtures and appliances. An ion-exchange softener removes the calcium and magnesium that cause it. The right call where hardness is the real problem.
Point-of-use filtration, usually at the kitchen sink, producing very high-purity drinking water. Removes a broad range of dissolved contaminants. Often paired with a whole-house system — softener or carbon for the house, RO for what you drink and cook with.
For well supplies: sediment filtration for sand and silt, plus treatment tailored to whatever a test turns up — iron, manganese, hardness, or bacteria. Well water is treated case by case, never off a template.
Well water in this county varies enormously from one property to the next, even between neighbors. Iron staining, hardness, sediment after heavy rain, and bacterial contamination are all things we see. The one thing we will not do is sell you a system before we know what is in your water.
Start with a test. It tells us what you are actually dealing with, and it stops you paying for treatment you do not need or, worse, installing the wrong thing. From there we build a system around your results — sometimes that is a single sediment filter, sometimes a multi-stage setup.
On a well and not sure where to start? Call us and we will talk through testing and what your options look like once we have results. Call (831) 777-5758
| Your complaint | Usually the answer |
|---|---|
| Spots on glasses, scale on fixtures, short water heater life | Water softener |
| Chlorine taste or smell from city water | Whole-house carbon filter |
| Want better drinking and cooking water specifically | Under-sink reverse osmosis |
| Sandy or cloudy water, especially on a well | Sediment filtration, plus a test |
| Well water, unknown quality | Test first, then a system built around results |
Different jobs. A softener removes hardness (scale). A filter removes chlorine, taste, odor, and sediment. Plenty of homes want both. We will tell you which your water actually calls for.
Yes, and for well water it is the right starting point. The test drives the system, not the other way round.
If your priority is the best possible drinking and cooking water, yes. It is point-of-use, usually under the kitchen sink, and pairs well with whole-house treatment.
